Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals, those looked after by the local authority and the children of armed service personnel.

It is now a statutory responsibility to share information on how the Pupil Premium funding has been used on the school website.

At St Giles Junior School we currently use the additional funding in the following ways:

  • To provide short-term intervention programmes for underachieving pupils and those with SEN.
  • To provide one-to-one tuition for some pupils
  • To target mathematics through AFA.
  • To organise and lead Parental Workshops in Mathematics
  • To maintain smaller classes
  • Small groups in reading, writing and mathematics to boost learning
  • To reduce exclusions through nurture group
  • Increase attendance for all children
