Our Governors

On the Governing Board there are people representing different groups such as Parents, Teachers and members of the local community.

The overall purpose of the Governing Board is to help St. Giles Junior School provide the best possible education for its pupils, in order to develop every child's full potential. This involves, in particular:

  • Monitoring and evaluating performance and acting as a critical friend to the Head Teacher
  • Setting the school's vision and strategic aims, agreeing plans and policies
  • Ensuring that the school is accountable to the children and parents it serves, its local community, those who fund and maintain it, as well as the staff it employs

Good governance makes an impact in the classroom and St. Giles Junior School Governors aim to contribute to high standards of attainment, together with good quality teaching and pupil behaviour.

The Governors aim to encourage a caring partnership between the School, Parents and Governors based on trust and a shared understanding in order that the child's education can be for the benefit of the child, school and community.

ORGANISATION OF THE GOVERNING BOARD

Instrument of Government

Structure and remit of governing board

The Governing Board works as a ‘whole team’, meeting 6 times per year, once in each term, without any separate committees. An agenda for each meeting will include all the tasks which the governing Board is required to consider, and the governing Board will ‘commission’ assignments or activities arising from the business of the meeting, which will be recorded in the minutes.

In addition to ‘commissioning’ activities or actions on their behalf, the governing Board may wish to delegate monitoring activities to ‘monitoring pairs’ or ‘individuals’. This could apply to statutory functions, and/or the priorities of the School Plan.

In each case where a function has been delegated there is a statutory duty to report any action or decision to the Governing Board at the next meeting.

A full copy of the Terms of Reference for the governing board is available on request.

Contacting the governing board

The Governors are always keen to talk to Parents and hear their views on the school, the school can only be really successful if the School, Governors and Parents work together.

If you have any questions about one of the school’s policies, or feel that some changes are needed, you are welcome to raise this with a Governor. All communication and correspondence is treated with confidentiality and a response will be given to any issues raised.

If you have a specific concern or complaint we would encourage you to speak to a Teacher or the Head Teacher first, but if you are unwilling to do this, for any reason, please speak to a Governor via the school. Your concerns can be emailled to admin2571@welearn365.com and they will be forwarded, if you feel this is not approptiate, please contact the office and ask for the Chair of Governors email address, or leave a letter in an sealed envelope addressed to Chair of Governors.
